Author Sarah J. Brooks shares her European lockdown experience.
Sarah J. Brooks, romance author, tells us about her European lockdown experience.
I’m in lockdown in Europe with my partner and my dog. Yes, we’re all safe and well!
For us, first of all what we’ve been trying to do is to relax and we’ve been avoiding the news. We’ve been reading, watching rom-coms and some TV shows people are talking about, doing puzzles, playing online games, trying to learn a new language (emphasis on trying), cooking, baking, drinking wine, beer etc.
The positives of this experience have been that we have more time for each other, work (writing) and hobbies, but there are the negatives too: The feeling of uncertainty and fear, we miss some everyday things that we took for granted like drinking coffee in a cafe or going shopping.
To relax, I recently decided to give audiobooks a chance, so I picked a few of Lauren Blakely’s books on Audible. The one I enjoyed most in the past few days was “Lucky Suit” and if you would ask me why, the first thing that comes to mind is having both female and male voice actors, that makes the book easier to follow and understand. The plot of the book is also really interesting and likeable! Kudos to Lauren!
I would like to tell people to try and stay sane in these crazy times, if they feel a dose of anxiety, that’s natural, they should embrace it and try to find a way to feel better, different people have different strategies for it, some read, others write, Skype/FaceTime people, goof around, watch funny memes etc. and if you’re bored, just stop and think of something you always wanted to do, but didn’t and do it! If nothing works, take a nap, because why not! And eat sweets, drink teas, but sweets help us feel better!
Yes, lockdown sucks… we don’t have total lockdown here, but it’s advised not to leave your house if not needed.
At this point, I’m working on a few projects, not sure what will come out of them, but a new book should be coming middle May, hopefully! First I need to pick one of them and end it. Besides, my readers and I are writing a short story together, I came up with a few options and they get to pick in which direction the story goes…
Pictured is my dog Maya and one of my favorite places to sit and mostly think, I can’t really write so much there, but make research and read, for sure 🙂 My desk is always messy, so I can’t really show it to the world, someone could call some kind of health services LOL
